Monica Ain't Got Nothing On Me

It’s exactly a year until my wedding and I can’t really put it into words how excited I am.

Due to boring life dramas my fiancé and I decided early on to have a ‘long’ engagement of 19 months and, pretty much, ever since making this decision I have regretted it; moaning continuously that I’m bored of waiting and huffing and puffing every time the wedding is mentioned because well “what’s the point?” Now I come to think about it, I’m pretty happy he hasn’t left me.

Nevertheless he hasn’t and, from now on, I can happily declare: “I am getting married in less than a year!” Hooray!

There are, of course, advantages to having a long engagement. You can save up a bit of dosh, you can get thin (that old chestnut) and I’m hoping to have the most militarily precise wedding in the history of nuptials. Monica ain’t got nothing on me. I wouldn’t say I’m a ‘bridezilla’ as such, but I do know what I want and if I have to wait, like, forEVER, it’s damned well going to be exactly how I want it... or I’ll scream.

Well, maybe I'm a touch on the 'specific' side...

The problem is a good wedding really is one of my favourite things in the world. We live in a very un-romantic era. England, in particular, is a hugely cynical place to live. Public displays of affection are met with a sarcastic “Get a Room!” , boys critique their new relationships by a shrug of the shoulders and a mumbled “She’s alright I s’pose.” Any sign of liking someone is mocked and jeered at. The only time anyone can ever happily stand up and honestly declare their love of another person is at a wedding.

And lordy do they make me cry. I went to a wedding last weekend at which I cried when I saw the flowers – the bride hadn’t even come in yet. Even Phil Mitchell and Shirley’s nearly-nuptials got me choked up.

The point that I’m trying to make is that my wedding really is VERY important to me and if I have to wait another 366 days (it’s a leap year) please do excuse me if I go on about it a bit... coz I will...

  1. You are such a girl :) One year to go? Well, plenty of time to plan and find the perfect waterproof mascara which sounds like a big day essential for you! Looking forward to the new blog.
